Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gait,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Inspired by the movie ‘Invictus’ which I caught on my flight home. I think Nelson Mandela must be superhuman because I would go crazy if I was kept in a tiny cell for 27 years. Yes. To be a hero, you must sacrifice.

to the humid weather, sounds and smells of the place.

I remembered our Indian friends had remarked, despite the electricity cut offs due to a blazing 45 deg weather which destroys everything in and outside the fridge, they miss the smells, the monsoon rains and the sounds of India. But despite missing it, K said he doesn’t have to be there. Home is in his heart. Nice one. Maybe I should get used to that.
